Swimmers of the Week

Female:  Anna de Tar                 Squad:  Senior

Anna has already begun this new season with a bang!  In practice just the other day she earned a personal best time in the 100 breaststoke!  She went a 1:14 – very impressive!  Anna is progressing toward being a pretty versatile swimmer – her non-free strokes have improved a lot recently.    Anna is also attacking the strength training she is participating in three times a week.  The coaches are very happy with her performance, her improved attitude, and the recent increase in her determination!

Male:  John Conroy                   Squad:  A
“Lightning” John achieved his A-squad qualifying times and has since moved up to his new squad!  The coaches are all very proud of him – we are thrilled that his hard work is paying off!  John does a great job of concentrating on his stroke technique in practice – if one of the coaches asks him to change something we always see him really try to make that adjustment.  That “willing to change” attitude is a fantastic thing to have as a swimmer and it will certainly help John morph into a great swimmer!  Keep it up, Lightning!

Labor Day Practice Changes
Due to altered Kroc Center hours this Monday, September 6th, CAST practices will change.  There are NO MORNING PRACTICES for any squad.  In the afternoon, Juniors and Seniors will practice from 2:30pm to 4:45pm.  There are NO A, B, or C squad practices because the Kroc Center closes at 5pm.  Strength Training will be moved to 1:20pm – 2:30pm.

ALL TEAM Mandatory Registration Next Week
CAST has decided to change the registration format this year.  We are spreading it out over four days and separating it by squad to give detailed attention to everyone.  It is MANDATORY that at least one parent per family attend to register their swimmer(s).  This applies to EVERYONE currently on CAST.  If you do not register your kids by September 10th, they are ineligible to swim according to USA Swimming and will not be allowed to get in the pool with our team.

Here are the registration dates:
A Squad           Tuesday, Sep 7             5:30pm
B Squad            Wednesday, Sep 8        6:30pm
Junior/Senior  Thursday, Sep 9           5:00pm
C Squad            Friday, Sep 10              5:00pm

The plan is to have registration outside (weather permitting) the KROC Center door leading from the pool to the back parking lot.  If it is icky outside we’ll be in the pool stands upstairs.  Please attend the night specific to your swimmer as a coach will be speaking specifically about that squad on that night.  If you have multiple swimmers on different squads you are welcome to only come one night…but keep in mind the coaches will be speaking only about that one squad

In order to attend the registration night, you need to BRING THE FOLLOWING FORMS!  You can find them here:  http://www.swimcast.net/index.php?page_id=545.  We ask that you please type your information into the forms and then print them.  Do not print and then fill out in pen.  Thanks!
CAST will be going to an automatic debit / credit this year so please bring (1) a check for the month of Sept (this will be for Sept dues and the first half of the annual initiation fee).  We will also need (2) a voided check to set up the auto-debit process.  October dues will consist of regular monthly dues and  2011 USA swim registration fees.  November dues will be regular monthly dues along with the 2nd half of the annual initiation fee.

If you are unable to attend on your assigned night please attend any of the other registration sessions.  Keep in mind that if you are not registered by Friday the 10th of September, your child will NOT be allowed to enter the water until all paperwork and payment is received.  Thanks!

Six athletes represented CAST at the Western Zone Swimming Championships last month.  We were proud to have Anna de Tar, Bryce Kananowicz, Joe Loftus, Patrick Loftus,

Nicole Rozier and Yunus Tezcan compete in such a highly selective meet!   All of our swimmers did great and helped contribute to IES’s 5th place finish!  IES also won the Spirit Award – a tough win at such an enthusiastic, crazy meet!  Here’s a quick look at how our swimmers did:

Anna de Tar:  Finished 6th in 200 Free, making finals her 1st time at Zones!  Finished 11th in 50 Free with 29.61!  Best time in the 100 Fly as well!

Patrick Loftus:  Elected as team co-captain of the IES Zone Team!  Best times in 100 Back (4th place) and 400 Free (6th place - 15 second drop!).  Member of all four 1st PLACE relays:  200+400 Free Relays and 200+400 Medley Relays!

A Squad Announcement
Tuesday, Sep 7th A Squad will be having a dryland practice.  No need to bring your swim stuff – wear tennis shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt.  You MUST have a waterbottle.
Thursday, Sep 9th A Squad will be having goal meetings.  Have some personal goals in mind BEFORE you come to this workout.

Upcoming Swim Meet
Our first meet of the season is coming up!  The Trick-Or-Treat Meet in Moscow is October 29 – 31.  (ON Halloween!  We’ll have to wear our costumes at the pool!)  This is a really fun meet and it is a great opportunity to get racing again since it has been quite a while since our last competition.  The hotel cut-off is September 29th so you should reserve those soon.  Find more information in the meet info on the IES website (
www.ieswim.org).  The meet entry form is available now – you can log on through the password-protected section of our site.  The password is the same as last year.  If you are unsure of it email Sherry Kananowicz at castcrocs@yahoo.com.

Trash Pick-up Event
On Saturday, September 18th CAST will hold a trash pick-up event!  We are responsible for cleaning up trash around the Kroc Center because we’ve “adopted” that area and committed to keeping it clean and beautiful.  ALL squads are encouraged to attend!  Meet on the west side of the Kroc parking lot at 10:30.  The more people show up, the less time it will take!  Bags and gloves and donuts provided J  See you then!

Fish Out Of Water
A-squader John Randall participates in rowing!  Recently he and his partner raced against a WSU team and 2 club teams – and won!  Congratulations, John!  John also won “GRAND CHAMPION” for his entomology (study of insects) project at the North Idaho Fair!  That’s awesome, John!

B-squader Danielle Chastain did something recently that deserves an award.  She selflessly decided that for her birthday she didn’t want ANY presents!  Instead, she asked that her friends and family give her a donation for the Kootenai Humane Society.  What a wonderful act of generosity from a young girl – the animals at KHS received food and treats and toys for Danielle’s birthday!  Very cool J

Dawn Cordes, Junior-squader Ethan’s mom – has been taking a lot of pictures at recent meets and events.  You can check them out and even order them at: https://www.shutterfly.com/signin/viewSignin.sfly?fid=2632ca8ef3bfeb528d3ee00937c233517219ec85ca6afce5

Last Week’s Swimmers of the Week
Female:  Hanna Monroe               Squad:  A
Hanna, simply stated, is a joy to coach.  She constantly brings an infectious positive attitude to every practice.  Her work ethic and technique continue to improve by leaps and bounds leading to fantastic consistency in practices.  We cannot wait to see her efforts pay off!  Keep it up, Hanna!

Male:  Kade Hern                     Squad:  Junior
Kade has impressed the coaches with the determined focus he brought back with him from the break.  This focus has led to marked improvements in his freestyle technique, specifically.  And OH BOY are those improvements are paying off!  Kade swam two best times in his 50 freestyle by almost a half a second in practice recently.  Way to go, Kade!
