Good day all Western Zone Open Water enthusiasts,

We are inside a month until the 2025 Western Zone Open Water Championship so make sure you lock in your plans to swim up here in beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene, in Coeur d'Alene, ID.

Entries are due Monday, August 11th, so start finalizing and get them sent in.  We have had to make a late change in the Administrative Official position, to Sandy Graham, so please consult the new version of the meet sheet just posted for her contact information.  If you have already submitted your entries to Mike Mellock they are coordinating to make sure they get transferred over to Sandy.

Pay close attention to the Western Zone Website through race day for updates on the event, things like the required Technical Meeting on the evening of August 20th.  It will be an online meeting so be on the lookout for it.

Hope to see you all here!

7.3.25 update:

Good day Western Zone Leaders, Coaches and Open Water Enthusiasts!

On behalf of the Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team, the city of Coeur d'Alene, Inland Empire Swimming and the Western Zone, we are thrilled to formally invite you to the 2025 Western Zone Open Water Championships.  We're excited to hold this year's race here in North Idaho on beautiful Lake Coeur d'Alene and are happy to  announce that entry is open!!

The Meet Sheet, the Entry File and an Instruction sheet to go with the entry file are attached.  Please read the instruction sheet prior to entry - with multiple pool qualifying times for each race, this will tell you which events to enter your athlete in.  We will combine them later to create the 1.25, 2.5 and 5K races.

A few noteworthy items:
  • The entry deadline will be Monday, August 11th
  • Alex Herr (alexmherr@gmail.com) and Jeff Walkley (jwalkley@gmail.com) will be our co-Meet Referees. Please contact either of them directly for officiating questions or check out the attached Meet Sheet, under officials for the QR code to take you to the Official Application Form.
  • The 13 & Older 5K race will serve as a qualifier for the 2026 Open Water Junior National races.
  • At this time, we are not limited in the number of athletes we can have in each race. If the decision is made that we need to limit numbers, we will attempt to split races into heats accordingly.
Finally, if you have not already booked your hotel, please check out the Hotel Block section of the attached Meet Sheet, for all the up to date hotel block information related to the event.    Some of the booking deadlines are pretty aggressive so book early.

We are looking forward to hosting you all next month. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
